Olesya Gonserovskaya is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores themes of ecology, psychology, and anthropology. These themes unfold in multi-layered projects that bring together traditional and contemporary media. In the practice, Gonserovskaya works with materials that behave as autonomous participants. This choice reflects her interest in relationships based on equality and mutual value. This grassroots material democracy continues on the level of meaning: an interest in usefulness as a form of social care.

Alongside her artistic practice, Olesya has illustrated more than twenty books, most of them for children. They were mainly published in one of her mother tongues, russian, with several later translated. This was before the full-scale invasion, a time when she still believed that small, humane, and horizontal gestures together with activism and protest could help bring change for the better within the russian federation.
Being a russian/Ukrainian bilingual inspired her to tell the story of her own family and to explore the theme of cultural collision.
