Since 2020, Shay Mirk has taught the class “Making Memoir Comics.” This zine collects 10 thought-provoking exercises on storytelling and comics-creation from that class.
When you have a big story to tell, nothing is scarier than a blank page. Each prompt provides a helpful container for creating a short comic in a way that also helps you learn about techniques for making comics. Following each prompt is an examples of a quick comic Shay made in response to the exercise and an example from a student in the class. You can approach each of these prompts as a way to tell a small stand-alone story, or you can use them to create pieces of a longer work.
