Whether you’re new to making comics or an experienced illustrator looking to push yourself through an artistic block, this eight-week-long beginner-friendly class will kickstart your creativity and put you on track to create a finished comic you’ll be proud of. We’ll go through the steps of developing a comics idea, writing a script, working through thumbnail drafts, and drawing the final version, with an emphasis on story, structure, and building skills to eliminate road blocks in the cartooning process.
Class dates:
This class runs for eight weeks, from October 15th – December 3rd, on Tuesdays from 6pm-8pmPST/9pm-11pm EST. This class meets online, via Zoom, and is capped at 25 participants. The class will be recorded and emailed to all participants weekly, if you need to miss a session.
What you need:
• Drawing supplies. You can draw on paper or digitally, whatever you prefer. You’re welcome to use whatever materials you have on hand, whether it’s colored pencils, watercolors, or ink pens.
Age restriction:
This is a class for adults, geared toward people who are age 16+. If you want to enroll someone younger than 16, please email us to tell us about them first!
About the teacher:
Kane Lynch is a cartoonist and educator whose comics and illustrations have appeared in The Nib, Slate, and Psychology Today. Kane’s graphic novel for kids “Reel Life” will be published by Scholastic Graphix in 2025. A graduate of the Center for Cartoon Studies, Kane teaches workshops for artists of all ages, at schools, libraries, and comic cons throughout the country.
